A post shared on Facebook claims Gen. Maria B. Barrett of the U.S. Army Cyber Command was arrested for conspiring against former President Donald Trump.

Verdict: False

The claim stems from an article published on a satire website. Barrett has not been arrested on any such charges.

Fact Check:

Barrett assumed control of the Army’s Cyber Command (ARCYBER), replacing outgoing Lt. Gen. Stephen Fogarty, according to Fed Scoop. She is the first woman to serve as the commanding general for ARCYBER, the outlet reported.

Now, a post shared on Facebook claims Barrett was arrested by U.S. Marines at Fort Gordon, Georgia, on “charges of sedition, conduct unbecoming of an officer, and treason,” according to the post. Barrett supposedly inserted a fabricated document into Mar-a-Lago’s network instructing Trump supporters to retaliate against the Deep State following the FBI’s search of the former president’s home.

The claim is false. There are no credible news reports to suggest Barrett was arrested for conspiring against Trump. The claim also does not appear on the Department of Defense’s website, its verified social media pages or on the ARCYBER’s website or the former president’s TRUTH Social account.

A keyword search reveals the claim stems from an Aug. 30 article published on the website, Real Raw News. The website’s “About Us” page includes a disclaimer indicating that it contains “humor, parody and satire.” (RELATED: Did The US Military Arrest White House Deputy Chief Of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon?)
