A video shared on Facebook claims to show supporters of former President Donald Trump protesting against his possible arrest in New York City.

Verdict: False

The video circulated before Trump’s announcement that he would possibly be arrested in March 2023. An organizer for an October 2020 event said the video was from there.

Fact Check:

Trump announced on Truth Social media that he expected he was going to be arrested Mar. 21, according to CNN. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office is investigating the alleged payment of pornstar Stormy Daniels with campaign funds, the outlet reported.

The Facebook video shows Trump supporters on a busy street. The video’s caption reads, “Today in front of Trump Tower NYC!!!     #FREETRUMP.”

The video’s caption, however, is inaccurate. Through an internet search, Check Your Fact found that the video was available before Trump’s announcement on social media. The video was on TikTok in December 2022.

The video appears to be from an October 2020 Trump rally in front of Trump Tower, according to NY1. One of the rally’s organizers, Shawn Farash, said on Twitter that the video was old. (RELATED: Did Ron DeSantis Have Advance Knowledge Of The Mar-A-Lago Raid?)

“Anyone who sees video of a rally outside of Trump Tower, know that it is NOT HAPPENING TODAY. It is OLD VIDEO from a rally that my organization put together on OCTOBER 4TH 2020,” Farash tweeted.

Check Your Fact could not find any media reports about a substantial protest in front of Trump Tower after Trump’s announcement of a possible arrest. Police officers erected barricades outside of Trump Tower and Manhattan Court in preparation for possible protests, according to NBC New York.
